Once you research their work, choose a song lyric, poem or book passage that you want to illustrate using the photo composite technique. It cannot be something that you would see ordinarily, such as two people walking down the hall holding hands. Think of fantasy/ dream like images, made up of ten+ photographs. You can use a combination of your images and from the web, but at least 75% of the images must be yours. If you use images from the web, be sure to save them as large quality images- the tutorial is here. You may also use your phone outside of class to take images for the project.
Your finished piece must use a plethora of techniques that we learned in class, such as blending, layer masks, changes of scale, duplication, etc. You can also do things like use multiple exposures in the camera, slow shutter speed for a ghost like effect, fast shutter speed for floating/ water, change the color of something, make someone levitate or be invisible, etc. I want you to go beyond just cutting and pasting things onto a background and really challenge yourself. If there's anything you don't know how to do but you're interested in doing, there's probably a video tutorial for it on youtube, Adobe tv or https://design.tutsplus.com/categories/photo-effects (a good place to look for inspiration too!).
I'm very excited to see what my students come up with!
Graded based on:
Time on task- 3 points
came to class on time, off your cell phone, no wandering around room, asking questions as needed, diligently working
Prep work- 2 points
came up with three ideas and filled in sheet entirely, brought in props/ costume for styled shoot, put contact sheet with all images in the 04-06-207 Contact folder.
Photographs- 4 points
all photographs in focus, not pixellated, not too bright/ dark, no dust in sky, 5- 10 of your photos used, main photo is yours and not something off the internet, NO COPYRIGHT SYMBOLS on the images you use.
Craftsmanship and Photoshop Work- 3 points
used at least 4 techniques used in class, challenged self, learned a new technique, final project "works", final piece makes sense of what the original passage was from. Work is 11" x 14", 300 resolution.
Creativity- 3 points
Final piece creative, not something you would see ordinarily walking down the street, not a copy of a work from the artist, whimsical
Presentation: 2 points
Presenting your image, be excited, read the poem, sing a snippet of your song or play a part of it before showing your piece, explain how you created the artwork.
Blog Post: 3 points
Title your blog post "Composite Photograph."
Put your image, song lyric/poem/book passage, and detailed explanation of how you did the artwork in photoshop. Put the images that you used for the final piece as a slideshow below the BIG finished image.
*note- if your image is large for weebly, resize by opening it up in Photoshop, go to image > image size > and resize it to 10MB. Resave on your desktop as lastname-firstname-compositeproject-smaller.jpg so that you know it's for the web. Be sure to give me your larger finished piece in case we want to print it for the fair!
Put your finished composite as a jpeg in the 04-16-2017 Composite Project folder.
