To create a new document
File: New
Custom size
11” high x 14” wide
300 resolution
Save as lastname-firstname-hockney.jpg
To create your artwork:
Open up your photos from iPhoto that you took
Drag a thumbnail over from the top left of the composition
Position it into place on the top left hand side of the blank canvas
Go to edit > transform > scale to get it to fit into place, dragging it from a corner diagonally towards the center and pressing shift so that you’re not changing the proportions of the individual photo.
Keep doing that with each different photo, overlapping some to create separate layers
Use the move tool on each appropriate layer to edit/transform and move them to make a complete composition
If you want to move a photograph to put it behind another one, make sure you are on that highlighted layer and go to layer > arrange > move to back
When you are done,
a. Save a version in Photoshop with all the layers for yourself (in case there needs to be changes) then
b. Merge layers and save as lastname-firstname-hockney1, 2.jpg
MAKE SURE there is no dust in the sky, use brightness/contrast etc as needed on the photos to make them as high a quality as possible!
Save in the 05-26-2017 Hockney folder
c. Create a blog post named 'David Hockney Inspired Collage"
d. Put your two images on there as large as possible on your blog, indicating in the comments what the compositional rule was.
e. To resize your image to put on your blog, open it in Photoshop. Go to image> image size and change it to about 8" wide which will bring the size to about 10 MB. RESAVE it as lastname-firstname-hockney1-SMALLER.jpg, lastname-firstname-hockney-smaller2.jpg. ALWAYS HAVE A REGULAR SIZED PIECE AND SMALLER ONE. Once you make an image smaller in resolution, you can't get the quality back to the original so it's best to just have it saved as another copy.
f. Write a two paragraph writeup
1. Research who David Hockney is including when and where he was born and where he does his work, what type of artist he is, and how this artwork emulates his style (DO NOT COPY and PASTE). (one + paragraphs)
2. What you did to create this artwork both while taking photos and in Adobe Photoshop (one + paragraphs)
