2019- 2020 Year End Gallery
Although this year certainly didn't end the way we would have liked it to, I'm pleased to present the beautiful photography work of our Rancho students! Please enjoy, I hope this gives you a smile on your face!
Martha Aguirre, Class of 2020, Bloom
I titled my picture Bloom because the leaves appear like a flower in full bloom. I captured the picture of the leaves during my photography period. I thought the picture would look more intriguing if it were black and white.
I like this photograph because it’s almost soothing and the leaves look nearly touchable. I have definitely learned many more Photoshop skills throughout my two years in photography.

Ashley Atempa,Class of 2020, Unity
I titled this piece Unity because sport teams play together and as one. It’s a picture of Rancho’s Varsity football team. I took this picture at a football game against San Pasqual High school with a Nikon camera.I adjusted the camera that way the focus would be on the football players and photoshop to make the picture brighter. I like this picture because it shows them as a team and no matter what race there is on the team they work as one team. As being the photographer of this photograph I think it’s a successful photograph because it shows how they all have a brother like relationship. I would describe myself as someone who wants to try new things and step out of my comfort zone and to always do more than expected.

Emilie Morales, Class of 2021, Family
This Photograph is titled “Family” because they are family. It’s my beautiful mother and my older brother. To create this photograph I went to a park and looked for a fence and tried to create a framing rule picture by having both of their faces in a single space. Once I took the picture I used the airbrush app on my phone to blur the outsides to create a blur effect and added a filter and edited a few things to get a good picture. I also used the ultralight app to add a little more saturation and shadows.
I like this picture so much because I captured a beautiful picture of two people who I look up to and who I love so much. Also, the way the fence is connected to each other shows how tight they are to create a whole fence which resembles how tight my mother and brother are. Not only is this picture very meaningful to me but I love how it turned out after all the editing I did. I think it’s a successful photograph because the main focus is on my mother and brother while having a frame and blur. I would describe myself as a creative artist because I like to edit my pictures my way and like to take pictures with random things.

Harlie Blackstone, Class of 2020, Touching Lives
My photo is a black and white photo that I took on our trip to the Fire Station this year. I titled this “Touching Lives” because these firefighters are constantly saving lives. This photo captures firefighter Erick in the middle of talking about the firetruck and I saw an opportunity to get a pretty cool shot. I used Lightroom to edit this photo to black and white and it was taken during our amazing walking field trip to Fire Station No. 5.
I like this photo because I enjoy taking photojournalistic type photos and I believe it showcases how I enjoy taking photos and I love to use black and white photos because it always gives photos a timeless feel. I believe this photo is successful because it captures a behind the scene of what it is like to hangout with some firefighters and it showcases a good example of photojournalism. As an artist I would describe myself as a go with the flow artist because I really love to capture raw photos of in the moment things because I believe it captures emotion as well as a different perspective for other people.

Ruby Carter, Class of 2020 “Glowing Wave”
I have titled my photograph because it describes the photograph fairly well. The photograph is of the San Diego Bioluminescence. To create this work of art I just went out to the beach in oceanside pretty late and just sat there and took photos. The settings I used were really hard to get to but I used Aperture priority, ISO 10000, with a slow shutter speed, I had to keep changing it. I really like it is such a special event to be able to see. Also because it's so breathtaking to see in person, it's so phenomenal to just see the waves fill with the glow of the algae. As an artist, I would describe myself as adventurous, because I love going out of my way to take super rad photographs.

Sarah Higgs, Class of 2020 Sparkle
The photograph is titled Sparkle because the droplets of water look like big sparkles. I’ve never really been good at naming my photographs, I named it using the first describing word I thought of. It is a picture that was taken of my sister's hand, she volunteered to act as my model for a project I needed to get done. There is no editing at all, not even cropping. It was taken on my camera, a Canon T60 Rebel, in my backyard and uploaded to a computer. I feel like it is one of those shots you don’t know you have until you look back at all the pictures you’ve taken.
The piece reminds me of when we first were ‘recommended’ to stay home. I was feeling down because my senior activities were most likely being canceled. When I saw this photo on my computer, I felt slightly happier. It was nice to know that I could still actively participate in one of my passions. I thought of the process of the whole photoshoot, my sister was messing around and my dog was happily playing with her. It is successful because it made me feel happy. I’m not much of an artist but I believe I have my moments, and this photo is definitely one of those moments.

Hunter W. Krewson, Class of 2020, Duck’s life.
I titled my art piece, ‘Duck’s life’ because it is simple and interests me, just like the art is, very very simplistic and leaves you questioning what that might look like. My picture is of a flock of ducks who are walking through the park together, and a tree branch that is leading your eye towards them.I used Adobe Photoshop to give the High Definition Resolution effect to it along with the very vibrant and bright colors.
I love this picture because I still remember the awesome day I had during that whole time I was capturing images for our HDR project, the early morning breeze and harmony that the entire park’s atmosphere gave while I was there. I am just a regular and very simple person who enjoys photography very much and is fascinated with almost everything that leads up to the moment of capturing that special picture and moment of time which will forever go down in history.

Megan Medrano, Class of 2020, Ebony and Ivory
My photo is from the assignment Banners Over Vista. I titled this photo “Ebony and Ivory” because of the multiple black and white elements. I went to the bandroom and found only one person in the room. I had him sit down at the piano and told him to play whatever he wanted. I moved around him getting different angles of him playing. This angle was perfect because his hands, the keys, and the reflection was so crisp. I moved my photo to Photoshop to make it black and white. It took me a while to figure out how bright and dark different areas of the picture should be. I really like this photograph because it is simple yet has its boldness. I’m not one to use black and white filters a lot. I love bright, vivid colors so this was out of my comfort zone. I would describe my art as an “everyday/nothing too crazy” kind of vibe. I have learned to move around more and find different angles, but to not lose what catches MY eye first. I’ve learned my art isn’t for everyone and that’s okay because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I am looking forward to learning more about how I can use different cameras in different ways. Since I’m leaving high school I know it’s my turn to be the teacher.

Litzy Matadamas, Class of 2020, Blue
My photograph is inspired by Jordi Koalitic. I chose the name “Blue” because the picture creates its own personality with the colors. It also reminds me of being blue and this can be seen in the facial expression. The picture is of Olivia Ohm getting splashed with water but is protected by the plexi glass. I had to take the picture from below so it aimed more towards the sky. I used photoshop to clean out the dust and I altered the colors. I like it because I never really take these types of pictures and it took me out of my comfort zone. I think it's a successful photograph because it's different and calls out to me with the colors and water. I would describe myself as focused and adventurous.

Olivia Ohm, Class of 2020, Explore
Areli Santiago, Class of 2022, "The Girl With Red."
The picture that I am representing shows a picture of a girl leaning back making an exotic pose. I have titled it “The girl with red” because the red shirt pops out more than the background and the way she is posing is something different. So what I did to make this picture is ask my friend to pose a certain way so I can recreate another photo. So then I chose a place to shoot which was outside in the grass. Then I took pictures and then started editing it on an app called PicArt. I changed the brightness of the exposure then I put a filter on to make it pop the color more. I think I have gotten better with my photography skills with knowing the different types of angles, the setting and learning how to edit photos to make it look better. I would describe myself as an artist as more stable and focused.

Allison Czech, Class of 2023, "Memory Portrait."
The title of my photo i look is memory portrait.I titled this photograph memory portrait because it's one of my favorite portraits of my best friend I took. It's a picture of It's a picture of my best friend Lilia. I didn't use any apps to edit this photo i think it's perfect the way it is.I really like it because number 1 it's a picture of my best friend and their background and lighting is amazing. I think it's a successful photograph because the lighting and background. How I would describe myself as an artist is a model artist because I'm good at taking because to make you look like an model and when I take picture of my friends they come out really good and they look like a model.

Bill Long, Class of 2022
Lilia Callejas, 2022, Allison
I titled the photograph that because that is the name of the person in the picture. This picture is of my friend Allison. To make this picture I just adjusted the brightness, contrast, clarity, saturation, and shadows a little bit. I used picsart to adjust it, and I took this picture on the bleachers by the field. I like this picture because it looks really good and it is of my friend. I think it is a successful photograph because it’s not messed up in any way. I would describe myself as creative. I have definitely gotten better at taking photos and learned how to photoshop. I have learned many new things like photoshop and other fun things like that.

Daniel Carlos, Class of 2020, Nature’s Snowflake
This picture is a mandala which was made from a picture of some twigs from a plant I took which I didn’t use for a tessellation piece. I named this picture Nature’s Snowflake because like a snowflake it has multiple patterns and this picture resembles how a snowflake would look with all the patterns and like a snowflake if you change the way the picture is set it comes out completely different like a snowflake in which no two snowflakes are the same. I used photoshop to make this picture.
I like this picture because I love how it came out, it was one of the first mandalas I made and it was the one that got me into mandalas which is why I made a lot but haven’t shared them, I think it is a successful picture because since it was simple to make yet I could be seen differently, to some it has the shape of a snowflake to others it’s just shapes combined to form a star. The way that I would describe myself as an artist is that I like to take pictures that nobody would think art would come from like my mandala which is just pictures of twigs from a plant that were put together in a way that came out beautifully.

Isabella Morales, Class of 2022, Look Beyond the Eyes
I have titled my photograph ¨Look Beyond the Eyes¨ because I think this photo really shows what is going on behind her eyes and what she is thinking at the moment and that it just really shows and makes you think what she is feeling or what is even going on behind the camera and what she is looking at. This is a picture of one of my good friends Ruby Carter, Senior, Class of 2020. What I did for taking and editing this picture was pretty easy. I used a DSLR camera and I went outside in the halls of my school and just looked for a nice background to take pictures in front of. I then pretty much had her stand in front of some nice trees and then from there she did her own modeling and stood in some nice positions that I was able to take a picture of her in. I then uploaded the picture onto my computer and just used the editing tools on the photo app for Apple and then turned the picture into black and white. Why I like this photo so much is that I think that one photo can really describe a person just by looking at it and I believe the picture really has more behind it and that it leaves you wondering what is going on in her head or is she going through at the moment. I think the photo is successful because I think it really shows a story of what is going on in the picture and what both the model and photographer are thinking while taking this photo. I wouldn't think of myself as an artist. All I would call myself is just a photographer trying to take a picture describing a story.

Mirna Hernandez, Class of 2020, Invincible Class
This image deserves the title “ Invincible Class ” because we are a generation that was born after an unimaginable attack and we have had to grow up knowing and acknowledging wars but we have also had the one thing, we had been waiting for for the past fourteen years.Seening it get ripped away from us in a blink of an eye. However we won't let it destroy us. This is a picture of my friends and I participating in who knew our last spirit week. Twin Day. To make this picture I firsted used iphoto and then lightroom to change the lighting and make the colors more vibrant. I consider school somewhere special because it is the location we spend most of our time at, it is the place where we make friendships and learn who we truly are. I like this image because it captured the friendship that had been developing these past four years of highschool. This was a successful photograph because it captured the true Longhorn Spirit! I consider myself a photographer that captures memorable moments not worrying too much about the background because that is also a part of the story.

Aiden Irving, Class of 2021, Pool Table Mandala.
I called this "Pool Table Mandala" because I created a mandala in photoshop with a small section of a picture of a mural at RBV that reminded me of a pool table because of the colors. I made it by using a mandala template in Photoshop and copy and pasting the same triangle piece in their right spots in the template and evened them out to make sure there were no lines in the mandala, then I added a simple black background. I like it because I turned a simple picture of a mural into a cool tessellation I made all by myself. My artistry has gotten a lot better because of my Photo 1 class this year and I think that also helped a lot.

Donovan McGraw, Class of 2021, Red Eyes
My photo is an HDR photograph of some ducks at the duck pond. I called it “Red Eyes” because of the ducks' red eyes in the photo. To create this picture, I tried to take a photo of these ducks in the same spot 5 times with 5 different exposures from -1.0 to +1.0. After doing this I imported all the pictures as an HDR in Photoshop and looked for a preset of my liking then adjusted the brightness, contrast, saturation, etc to my liking. I like this photo of ducks being close to the camera, but far at the sametime and I think it’s successful because they look natural and they don’t make it seem like I’m there. As an artist I describe myself very creative and risky with some of my photos by trying to make them more complexed.

Arlene Melendrez, Class of 2021, “Blur”.
I chose this title "Blur" because of the style of the picture and the way it looks. It is a bit blurry but at the same time it seems to be focused and has a good angle. The picture was taken at school during class and we were given time to go out and photograph. I took a picture of the dirt first and thought about a couple ways that I could make it seem unique. I decided to layer a picture of a plant that I had also taken and loved how it looked. I used photoshop and messed with brightness, tone and made sure it was clean. This is my favorite picture because I loved the way that both the pictures looked together. It gave it a cool effect. I can see how much I have improved. I look at pictures from before and see how I now make sure my lines are straight. The angle is clear and focused pictures.

Itzel Meza, Class of 2021, The Slowly Snail
My picture is titled “The Slowly Snail” because in the picture there is a snail and I think it’s funny having a title like this. My picture is a photo of a snail like the title said and it’s eating the leaves. The colors are really vibrant. I took it with my cell phone because you were taking online classes and it was an assignment. I really liked it because it was just a random photo and I just looked at it but at the end it came out really good.

Kimberly Mascorro Diaz, Class of 2020, The Beauty of Nature
This photo is a picture of a group of succulents. The reason being for me naming the photo The beauty of nature is because the succulents have very vibrant and bright colors that make it pop and look pretty. To make it, I used photoshop, adjusted the brightness, sharpened the image, and messed with the hues, as well as adding a little bit of vibrance to the photo. I really like this photo because one of the succulents looks like a flower, although it isn't and it really grabs my attention. I would say this is a successful photograph because it's able to show all the symmetry and details of the succulents, and it follows the rule of thirds. As an artist, this year I learned that photography has a lot of similar rules as art, and it really helps me combine the skills I already had with a new passion that I’m trying to improve on. I look forward to next year learning how to take raw photos and make new different kinds of masterpieces.

Marlowe Mateo Class of 2021- “Twin Skies”
I titled this picture “Twin Skies” because there are two pairs of crows both opposite of eachother. You can pair the crows however you want. The two top and bottom could be twins or the two on the left and the two on the right. The picture is of one crow that I made into multiple. I made the photo in Photoshop. I multiplied the picture 3 times and faced them in different ways. I like this picture because I like how simple the picture looks. It's a picture I could see hung up at my house. I would say I like taking simple looking pictures of clean pictures.

Ricardo Nava, Class of 2020, Leading Line
I titled it Leading Line as it’s a picture of the hall in RBV. But it’s edited where it looks almost like a heavenly photo or peaceful setting. I used photoshop to edit this and I used the HDR setting. I like it since it looks so good since the shadows and light contrast perfectly. I think it is a successful photo since it is one of my best and favorites. I would describe myself as an artist as a person who always tests and adds a different take in a photo. It’s always something different to each photo.

Dakota Burton, Class of 2020. This piece is called “California, as we left.”
I named the picture this because it was the last picture that I had taken in California, before I left for Florida. The picture is of the mountains and landscape of an area just near El Centro, CA. For this picture, I had to roll down my window while in the car, and take the picture while moving close to 45 Miles per Hour. Since I was on the road for about 4 days, the only way I could edit pictures was with Lightroom Mobile. It became very handy since it was all I had.
I like this picture because of the very wide angle, and the detail in all aspects of the landscape. It captures California as a state, rather than a tourist attraction. The vibrant colors of the green, the distant mountains, the sky... It all ties in very nicely. I enjoyed that I had taken this picture, if I didn’t, I wouldn’t have liked lightroom as much.

Jesus Acevedo, Class of 2021, Hope in the Dark
The photograph I selected is from a project I did, where I had to recreate and emulate a photographer's style. The photo I selected was the one I emulated. I titled my photograph “Hope in the Dark” because as I looked more into this picture, I envisioned the idea of light vs. dark or good vs. evil. Leading to the idea that no matter what you’re going through in life, you can do it because there will always be this sense of hope within you or a light at the end of the tunnel. This photo was taken of my cousin standing behind this chandelier that was hanging over the dinning table. I was able to create this photograph by using a Nikon camera and by slightly lowering the darkness of the photo. I like this photograph because as I was taking my other photos for the same project, I constantly kept staring at this chandelier knowing I could create something with it. Not once did I ever imagine them coming out like they did, which is why I chose this to be my favorite photo of the year. I would describe myself as an artist who does not give up and that is very determined to show my ability as an artist.

Alex Arenas, class of 2021, Morning Glow.
The photograph is an image of a lamp post mounted onto a brick fence that was gleaming it’s yellow colors. I titled the photograph “Morning Glow” because I captured an image of a lamp post that was illuminating its lights, giving brightness to its surroundings. To create this photograph, I used Adobe Lightroom App to construct several examples of the image to add effects and exposures. I used a copy of the photograph to create a darker tone image by adjusting the exposure. With an exposure of -.93, I was able to raise my contrast to +24 to make it slightly darker. To find the perfect image in my eyes, I didn’t really set a destination to take the photo, I was jogging in the morning and I saw many lamp posts glowing around the area and I had to stop to take a photo. I really like this image because of how the colors contrast with each other, the image shows such a bright yellow being centered in the photo with a dark blue sky. It’s such a simple image but the contrasting colors makes it a successful photograph. Over the past year, I saw myself as an average artist who had semi decent photographs, but taking photography over the past year improved my skills based on learning various techniques and having motivation to do so. As long as I take time and effort to create a masterpiece, then every image I take, I can improve my work to become better.

Alisha Richardson, Class of 2020, Evil Twin.
I named it this Evil Twin because it matches the storyline we made with the other picture in this series. This picture is of my partner Vince posing for our story. I made the picture in Photoshop. I like it because it was very hard using photoshop for me, but I did it and the picture looks very clear. I would descibe myself as unique because I create art that is very different and out of the box.

Brooke Presley, Class of 2020, Sweet Little Thing
My picture is of a cupcake, it was for the food photography project. I made the cupcake then just used my phone to take a picture of it. The only thing that I adjusted was the exposure to make it look darker. I like it because it’s very dainty and meek. I think it is successful because not a lot is happening and it has a very aesthetic look to it. I would describe myself as a quiet artist, I like to take simplistic and elegant photographs. I have learned a lot. I’m looking forward to learning more about photography.

Ashley Lopez, Class of 2020, Grabbing for Hope
The reason I titled this Grabbing for Hope is because that I believe no matter the situation there is always hope, even when sometimes you feel like your in a tunnel, and it's dark and there's no way out, but I know from personal experiences that no matter how upset or hurt you get when it comes to the situation their will always be hope, even if it takes a while to reach it, you just have to keep on grabbing for hope. What this picture consists of is the sky on a foggy day and my hand reaching up towards it. This is a multiple exposure photo that I took on a foggy day as you can see. What I used for this particular photo is Photoshop to just darken up the colors a bit, to make it look more deep. The second thing I used to make this photo is the multiple exposure setting on my camera. What I like about this photo is even though its simple, and just consists of me holding up my and and the sky as a background, i just feel that during anytime in someone's life there is a point where you feel like you're in tunnel with no way out looking for the light, and you're just trying to reach out for something that can make things better.
I think that this photo is a successful photo because even if it's somewhat simple, it can still turn out to be something meaningful. I think I would describe myself as a simple photographer, a simple photographer who takes photos and just turns it into a meaningful photo. Another way I would describe myself is as a photographer that does not have a theme. I would just grab a camera, look around and take a picture of something, doesn't matter what, and just try to make it into something spectacular.

Geovany Rosales, Class of 2022, Victoria
I have chosen to title this piece Victoria because if it weren’t for her, this beautiful picture wouldn’t exist. This picture is of Tori calmly sitting down on a rock looking at a distance surrounded by pure nature and the sun just peeking through the trees. This picture was taken on a camera with no edits made to it but I did go to The Duck Pond in Vista to take this photograph. The reason I love this photograph is because of the sun and how it makes everything look bold. The sun really was the cherry on top. I think this picture was a successful photograph because of the setting and how Tori wasn’t right in the middle of the picture but instead to side. I would describe myself as an artist as creative because I always tend to think outside the box which makes me have all sorts of crazy ideas.

Gabe Corcuera, Class of 2020, The Koi Pond to the Unknown
I titled the picture because the pond has an area in the middle with nothing as the fishes persevere. The picture is of koi fish in a pond swimming toward the unknown. I used Photoshop and made a tessellation of a picture I took of a slab. Then I would adjust the contrast to pop the color more intently. I like the picture because of the peace the picture has along with the mystery in it. I think it's successful as it can have a lot of meaning behind it. From koi fish in japanese culture symbolizing abundance and perseverance. Adding they swim upstream including waterfalls showing strength and determination with the factor of the eye of what is not known. Showing no fear to it, but simply pursuing it with ease. As an artist I would consider myself very open to seeing the bigger picture in every picture and try to find the meaning of it. Very open to explore and learn how to capture the best moments as they manifest.

Lucero Vasquez, 2020, Fountain of Nature
I titled my photograph Fountain of Nature because there is a lot of nature surrounding the fountain. The nature surrounding the fountain including the leaves on the ground, the trees, the palm trees, and the sun all bring the photo together. Nature is something that has always surrounded us and it is extremely beautiful. The dripping of the water on the fountain creates a cool effect that creates a rippling pattern. This is a picture that was taken at the Mission San Luis Rey. This picture incorporates the fountain as well as the nature surrounding it and the statue in the background.
I used Photoshop to add the black and white filter on this photograph. The only edit I made to the photograph was changing the filter of it. I used my cell phone to take the photograph as well. I like this photograph because everything in the photograph comes together to create a perfectly balanced photograph. The sun in the top left, the plants, the trees, the bench, and the fountain are all part of what makes the photograph so peaceful and balanced. It’s a successful photograph because there are a lot of details but they are all brought together to create a well balanced photograph. It represents the fountain of nature and the beauty surrounding it. I would describe myself as an artist that enjoys taking pictures of anything and I enjoy using apps like photoshop to create better, more creative photographs.

Lesly Cantu Bravo, Class of 2021, Leading shadows.
I decided to title my photo because when doing this assignment the challenge was to capture Frame, Rule of thirds, leading line and others as well. I used this photograph to show the leading line because I thought the bench and the line in it really showed where the line was going. The positioning of the photo made it look come out even better, which I really liked. This is a picture that was taken at campus and it's around the school parking lot. I saw the bench and the line going through it, I felt like this would be a good representation of the leading line. I didn't do much with this picture. I just made it look cleaner and I wanted to keep it simple but at the same time make something stand out. I changed the saturation to and played with the colors and I decided this color because it didn't make it stand out too much but I made the overall photo look different. I used photoshop to change up my photo. I didn't have to use my apps like I normally would. I really like that I was the only one who took this shot, a lot of people took the same pictures that showed the leading line and I was going to take the same picture but I was really trying to get something different. I think this Photo was pretty successful, Ms. Clark gave me multiple compliments on it and that made me feel really good. She also posted it on Instagram in the schools photography account and I really liked that. As an artist I would describe myself as random and creative. I like turning boring and basic pictures into something better. Just by making one thing stand out, it can change up the whole photo making it alot more eye-catching. Overall pretty easy and enjoyable.

Natalie HIlz, Class of 2021, The Dew drops in Her Eyes
This piece is of two photos exposed together one of a girls eye and the second of dew from a cloudy tree. I did this by selecting the multiple exposure setting on my camera. I titled this the dew drops in her eyes because the foreground has a shot of pine tree needles with dew hanging from them and in the background a girls vibrant green eyes that tie in well with the needles. I think this photo does well because of how mystical and fairytale like.

Audri Castelli, Class of 2020, Poison Ivy
This is a picture of my friend Ryan. I titled this photo Poison Ivy because he was going to touch it for the photo. I took this picture on the school cameras while we were at the duck pond. I like this photo because he looks happy joking about touching poison ivy. As an artist I don’t really like to set a goal of what I want the photo to look like. I like to mess around with the camera and see where it takes me.

Natalia Gaoiran, Class of 2021, Flores
This is an HDR photograph that was taken at the duck pond. I’ve named it “flores” meaning flowers, because this is an up close photograph of flowers. I’ve spelled it in spanish because I simply felt like it went well with my photo. I used the app called “PS Express”. I picked this photo because of how much detail there is. You can see the little leaves growing off the stems, you can see the flower petals, and you can see the cell lines in the background but very faintly; so it isn’t distracting. As an artist I have learned a lot and I have grown a huge interest in photography but I believe that there are still many things I need to learn to become a great photographer.

Jamiee Raya, Class of 2020, Bubble Fun
My photo was from a Fast Shutter Speed project, it was mainly for water balloons but we also used bubbles to create pictures for the assignment. I titled it “Bubble Fun” because this project was genuinely fun, it didn’t even feel like a regular school assignment, we were all enjoying the moment with each other and taking pictures of one another either blowing bubbles or getting wet with water balloons. I honestly didn't do anything to edit this photo, I used the camera Ms. Moncure provided to us students and then uploaded it to google classroom, we took these behind the gym, by the dance room to not make too much noise/ mess in front of other classrooms. I like it because of the story behind it. I enjoyed being with the other students just taking pictures and having fun, it was an assignment we all had fun with. I would say that I’m more of a go with the flow kind of artist, I really just like enjoying the moment and capturing it. If it has a good story behind it, then I like it.

Amy Torres, Class of 2021, Fall Fog
I titled this piece fall fog because it gave me an eerie fall feeling and I love that so I thought that title was great for the photograph I used. This picture is of a hall at RBV on a foggy morning with trees aligned on the sides. I used photoshop for most of it then I also used photopea. I like this photograph because of the vibe it gives off. As I mentioned, it has an eerie fall feeling to it and fall is my favorite season and I love all things related. I think this is a successful photograph because it shows the compositional rule of leading line very well. I would describe myself as an artist because I try to use at least one compositional rule in each photo. I also try to incorporate a meaning to each photo and show that there is some type of story or meaning to it.

Ryan Smits, Class of 2020, The Little Miata That Could.
I titled this piece that because this little car has a long and crazy history and we’re making it beautiful again like it first was brand new. The picture is of this Miata that I bought for $600 and I ended up selling to my roommate, the car was rolled and destroyed but we’re fixing her up nicely. I edited this photo on the Macbook editor and I think it came out great. I like it because it’s showing all the hard work and time I have put into this little car. I bought it destroyed and it makes me happy that we're making it nice again. I would describe myself as an artist who loves bright colors and images that really pop out to the person admiring it.

Tyler Knowles, Class of 2023, Evening changes.
My photo is named this, because every evening there's something different in the sky,It could be foggy or a beautiful orange/pink sky. This picture is right before sunset of the mixture of skies, there's dark clouds near the bottom but at top amazing colors. I took this photo on my phone in my backyard, I didn't do anything special to it. It is all natural light.I like this picture because it is very calming and I am glad I got a picture of it. It turned out great with the trees mixed in at the bottom. If I described myself as an artist I would say patient because i'm able to wait for the right moment.

Jordan Butler, Class of 2022 , Beauty Within
I titled this piece “ Beauty within because in the world we live in, things can be dark sometimes and there are people that can make the world an ugly place but with a little light you can come out of the shadows and make a change and try to make the world a better place for anyone. This is a picture of the oceanside harbor and the sun is going down and the water is crashing down with little waves, also with a little bit of a reflection on the ground. I did not edit this photo in any way. I took this picture with my iPhone XR horizontally. This photo was taken at the beach in Oceanside. I like this picture because of the colors that are in this photograph, Orange, yellow, blue, black, and grey. I also like how your eye goes to the 2 pills and how you can also see how the sun is reflecting in the water making a line of light. I would describe myself as creative and open to trying new things and obsessed with taking pictures of anything that catches my eye.

CJ Jordan,Class of 2020, “A Day In Paradise”, the reason i titled my photograph that is because I feel like my photograph shows a peaceful day and I feel like I captured what paradise or a “get away” feels/looks like. The picture is main if a single tree, but I have also captured the essences of the park and the things around it, like the benches, the bright blue sky, and the bright green grass as well. To make this photograph I made an HDR in photograph, to make the HDR photo you have to take around 5 photos and then change the brightness and then at the end put them all together and see the final result. The reason why I like it is because it's very simple but it catches the feeling the park gives off. As an artist i would say my style is very simple but appealing to the eye and something I feel is different, but a good different.
Eman Gonzalez, Class of 2021, Growing Up
I titled this piece growing up because of how old everything in the piece is and without the editing, everything would look dead. The picture is of a small river near the duck pond which contains a lot of wildlife. To make the piece I took multiple still images of the place in different exposures and then I went to photoshop, to use photoshop preset which made the piece automatically. What I like about the image is that with minimal editing it made the image a lot more vibrant than it really is and it’s a successful photograph because of how much of the wildlife you can see.

James Reed, Class of 2020, Education for All Photo Contest
The photo that I chose was one from the Education for All Photo Contest. I titled it “The Future” because it’s what our last look from high school would look like for most students and the start to a new future that lays ahead for us. The picture is of my partner wearing a cap and gown only showing his shadow to be a symbol for all students to be in that position. To create this photo I used f/6 and a moderate ISO (like 600) with autofocus on, on aperture mode. Then once several photos are taken they are uploaded to the computer to be enhanced through lightroom and processed as jpeg.
I like the photo because it not only shows what lies ahead for my generation but also applies to every generation that comes after and it was all about making a symbol for them to look up, to inspire them to keep bettering themselves. This was a successful photograph because I think it accomplishes that very well and could be relevant for many more years to come. I would describe myself as a growing artist because with each project and photo that I take, I see room for improvement and learn a technique or style that could make my next photo better.

Jazmine Moss, Class of 2020, All You Can Eat Goodness.
I choose this name because look at it, it's an overload of goodness and deliciousness. This picture is of the food photography assignment. I created an amazing strawberry mini strudels, with a cream cheese sauce to dip the treat in. I created this photo on my cell photo and tweaked the lighting to make the picture perfect and just what I wanted. I took the photo in my house. I like this photo because I loving baking, cooking and creating things. I think this is a successful photograph because it turned out exactly how I wanted and maybe better. I capture the perfect moment when my mom was pouring the sauce. It describes me as an artist because I use a recipe and turned into my own thing. Also I think it conveys me as an artist by my use of one color everywhere. Pink is shown throughout the piece a monotone picture, which I love.

Jess Hensley Class of 2023, Little Army Man
I named this photo “Little Army Man” because he is a little army man. This is a photo of an army man on a ledge at RBV with the sky and building in the background. I put this image in photoshop to adjust light and brightness on him, as you can see the highlights on him. I like this image because it makes him look like a leader since it is at an uplooking angle and he is holding his rifle. Also this photo was a success because I got a lot of compliments on how it was very detailed. I am a landscape and close up photographer.

Jessica Palmer, Class of 2020, Bare
My photo was taken at RBV, and entered into the National PTA Reflections Art Contest. The theme for the 2019-2020 contest was “Look Within”. To that end, I named my photo “Bare” as my interpretation of the theme, as the model in my photo, Lillie Bahnke, is wearing no makeup, emphasizing her freckles, eye color, skin texture, and color as reflected in the mirror. This photo was taken on a Nikon DSLR in some greenery next to the student parking lot at RBV and edited in photoshop and lightroom. I love this photo because of its raw quality and my intended meaning. On a visual level, natural beauty, but to go deeper, how exactly natural beauty is overlooked in the sense that society tells young women they must dress, act, and look a certain way to be desired. My photo capitalizes on this by showing pure, bare, beauty, making a statement about how toxic the beauty industry is as well as our society today. I believe that this photo is an ideal representation of me as an artist, in that, whenever I am behind a camera, I want to make a statement with my photo as well as it’s meaning. This photo ultimately exemplifies that.
Out of hundreds of entries in the PTA Reflections Contest, my photo succeeded three levels of judgement, achieving the Award of Excellence from Ninth District PTA.

Jose Gonzalez,Class of 2020, Leaving The Past
I titled this picture “Leaving The Past” to have a deeper meaning of what I took.It symbolizes my growth of age and how each day I’m growing up,and hardly using my childhood bicycle. The picture is showing my childhood bicycle and colors splashing into the image to show a child-like feeling of creativity and fun that most of us all felt as kids. I used my cell phone (samsung s10) to capture my picture and it was taken in front of my house. I like the picture for how it reminds of the past for how I would ride with it each day as a kid in a park with my grandpa. I just enjoy the picture for how I took it and the way it makes me feel each time I see my bicycle.
I would describe myself as a rookie artist, but an improved rookie artist. I’ve learned so much about photography this year from the way a photo should be taken, to the way a camara should be set for different times of the day. Things I didn’t know how to take nor see it differently, and I learned all of this from my photography class. What I’m looking forward to learning is to see how many take their photos and learn from them. Each photo has their characteristics and stories behind it which makes looking at photos even better than just thinking they’re just some kind of image.

Jovan Durham, Class of 2022, Life
My picture was taken using my phone back in the beginning of the year. I titled my picture “Life” because it gives me an inspirational vibe when I look at it. My picture is of a single colored flower surrounded by green leaves. I used pixlr and snapseed to edit my photo on my iphone. I like it because it almost seems like something you can find online done by a professional. I think this picture is successful because I am able to get a meaning behind the picture that creates emotion. I think I use emotion and uniqueness in my pictures.

Lillie Behnke, Class of 2020, Quarantine Pearl
My picture is a recreation of the famous painting, Girl With the Pearl Earring, for the Getty Quarantine challenge. I titled it, Quarantine Pearl, because I thought it would be appropriate for the time the photo was taken and it correlated with the painting. When making this, I used supplies I had at home, such as lighting and props needed for this photo. I used my Canon camera and edited in Lightroom. I love this photo because I truly feel like I captured the original painting to the best of my ability. My artistry is detail oriented and organized. This year I enjoyed learning how to take photos in various lightings and creating portraits. I hope to continue with photography in the future!

Kaden Salvatierra, Class of 2020, Clutch Meister.
The reason why this picture is so clutch is that I used it soooo many times in different edits. The glowing lightsaber light glass was perfect to fit into so many themes Miss. Clark had us do. This picture was taken at a famous glass blowing museum in Seattle Washington. I would sometimes take one single piece of glass and put it in a picture to my liking or to the requirements.
Sometimes I would use the whole thing making them look like a flock or a whole Jellyfish. I like it so much because I used it with such versatility I was able to use it in multiple pictures. I didn't even use the original picture for anything I don't believe. That's the funny part about it. I would describe myself as an out of the box artist. That does different, and weird things.

Matty Klicsu, Class of 2021, The Mexican Dude.
I named that photo that because I just thought it went well for the photo. This is a picture of my mexican puppet. To make it I used my phone in portrait mode and just took the picture and added a filter over it. I like it because it's so simple. This is a successful photo because it's not something you see normally for a photo. I don't think I am an artist. My photos are not art, they are just what I see at the moment.

Michael Cantu, Class of 2020, Unknown Wonders
The photograph that I used was a picture of the sun from the beach from the Lightroom Alternative Images project. I named it “ Unknown Wonders” because there are a lot of things in the world and universe that we still haven’t discovered. A lot of things are still unknown to us humans, things that we cant even imagine. To create this picture I took it from a hill that oversees the ocean where I work, I then lowered the brightness and sharpened everything up using SnapSeed on my phone. I really like the photograph because it looks very supernatural like, almost from a movie scene. I thinks it’s a successful piece because everything is detailed and the effects that I did really made the sun look like a nebula from outer space.
As an artist I would describe myself as creative and very picky. I am creative by coming up with different great project ideas that are original and fun. I am also very picky about which photographs pass as a “good” picture because I know I can do a whole lot better. This year so far I learned how to use lighting to make certain things pop, how to make poses for subjects and last but not least I learned how to edit pictures which I’ve always wanted to learn how to do. In the future I hope to be able to take great pictures of my family and kids and use the techniques that I learned to make sure the pictures that I take are the best of the best.

Rachel Palmer, Class of 2022, Upside Down.
I want to highlight the image and its reflection how we are looking at the clouds and a different angle or upside down. This picture is of a reflection of the trees and clouds after a rainy day. This photo is raw and unedited. I love the idea that beauty can come at every angle and how we look at an object affects how we feel about it. As an artist I am very colorful yet calm in the art I create. I always want to capture a joyful feeling.

Raymond Isida, Class of 2021, Memories.
My photograph that I've chosen really mean a lot to me. So the title that I decided to go with for this photograph is called “Memories". I know it's not a big title but to me it meant literally everything and without Ms.Clark i wouldn't have had such a great time in her class she's an outstanding teacher that will care about you and help you with ANYTHING no matter what it is. The photograph that really made me feel proud of myself was the light painting. I honestly didn't know what i was doing so I tried to make the best of it with what I got. After taking a couple pictures one really stood out more than the rest and it so happens to be posted on the RBV photos on instagram and as soon as I saw that so many emotions were going through my head and just to think my photo impressed Ms.Clark that literally meant the world to me knowing that I can actually come up with something not even knowing that it's that good to other people. During the process I started to edit the photo in Photoshop to fix it up a bit.

Roberto Meza, Class of 2020, Galactic Rain
I titled this photograph Galactic rain because it looks as if it were an image of space with the water droplets looking like stars. It is a picture of a puddle from a rainy day. We were walking around looking for pictures to take and it just so happened that it had stopped raining and the sun was starting to come out and I saw a pretty big puddle and I looked into it and the reflection looked surreal and I took the photograph. I took many photos at different angles but this one stood out from the rest since the sun was at the center of it and really made some droplets stand out. I took it with one of Mrs.Clark's classroom cameras. I liked it because it was one of many fun and cool photographs I took in Mrs.Clark's class and wasn't something I'd see normally. Nature really does make some of the most cool looking photographs. I think its a successful photograph because it stands out from other ordinary photographs because of the brightness it has. I would describe myself as an artist who tries to take photographs that have a lot of variety and pattern in them. Also one who uses nature as an advantage of finding cool looking settings to use for making a unique photograph.

Tara Heredia, Class of 2020, Illuminating Trees
My picture is a HDR photograph of trees at the duck pond and I titled it “Illuminating Trees” due to the color and contrast of the tree’s illuminating through your eyes and creating a dreamlike setting. To create this picture, I took the photograph in Aperture Priority and took 5 different photos using different exposures ranging from -1.0 to +1.0. I then went to Photoshop to add saturation to the photos and adjusted the overall lighting.
This photograph was overall successful and my favorite photo as it captures the beauty of nature and gives a sense of a fantasy world. As an artist my pictures have matured and I have a clearer vision of what I want to capture in my photos.

Tyler Salas, Class of 2021, “Just Keep Swimming”
I have conveniently named this photo “Just Keep Swimming” because it has to do with fish in a puddle but the fish in the photo are just gold fish. This Photo is of gold fish that are swimming in a puddle during the rainy weather. What I did to get this photo to look like the way it is in photoshop, is I first turned the saturation all the way down but I went to color levels and I turned only the color of the goldfish up so they’re the only thing in the photo with color, the place I took this was in the hallway of school during lunch. I like it because there’s something ironic about fish being in water but the fish are only crackers so they ont last long. It’s a successful photograph to me because it just works, fish are where they’re supposed to be but at the same time they’re not. As an artist I would describe myself as light hearted because most of my photographs and artwork aren’t meant to be taken seriously.

Manny Toledo, Class of 2022, Cliff Island Horizon
My photograph was shot at the Grand Canyon. I titled it “Cliff Island Horizon” because the main focus was the little island and there was a nice horizon. I took this picture with a Nikon D5300 I believe, I prefer to use lightroom CC instead of photoshop because I wanted to use my presents to fix the color balance and play around with cool tones of the photograph. I love it, I really think it was a great shot and this was for the “Artist as Mentor” project and I had chosen Jordi Koalitic as my inspiration so I tagged him on instagram and I got a reply and like from him. I would say that my photography is something I’m very passionate about and I hope to improve with taking portraits instead of landscapes for now.

Alfredo Quinones, Class of 2022, Graduation.
I've tiled this photo graduation because my sister is holding her high school diploma. The picture is of my older sister holding her high school diploma in the air in my front yard. I used no app for this photo but I went to my front yard where the sunset gives a nice background.
I like it a lot because you get a good amount of light. Another reason I like this photo is because it's an inspiration to finish high school and go onto college. It's a successful photo because my older sister finished high school strong with a high gpa and multiple certificates and is now a senior at Palomar college and will be transferring to Cal State fall 2020. As an artist I try my best to get good backgrounds with good lighting and make sure my model is in the right position so the picture can come out perfect.

Allison Hauck, Class of 2020, Auburn Sunset
This is a photo of my horse’s eye as he looks over the edge of a hill at sunset. I titled this photo “Auburn Sunset” because the bridle and his eye are auburn and the sunset also has a slight auburn tint to it. To capture this photo, I went to the barn around 7:00 and waited for the sun to set on the hill. He was intrigued by something, so he was standing still and alert, and I figured it’d be the perfect opportunity to take the photo. I used a Canon Rebel t7i camera in portrait mode and edited the colors and exposure with Lightroom. I like this photograph because of the composition with the bridle being in focus and the eye and the sunset being out of focus. The way the bridle is shaped sort of helps bring your eye up to his, and then you're drawn to the view. As an artist I would describe my style as simplistic. I really like photos with impactful subjects and simple backgrounds as opposed to photos with a lot of elements.

Anthony Castaneira, Class of 2020, Standing for What I Stand for
The artwork I chose was a picture of my sister standing in front of my great grandparents house. The name was chosen because it's a house filled with memories of family, guests and friends. She stands in front of the house as a proud statement for being raised there. The photo was created in photoshop. I added a black and white filter to emulate an artist. A fellow latino artist who photographed in El DF, Manuel Alvares Bravo. But it was simple enough just have my sister make a serious face as a statement and stood her in front of a family house.
My photograph speaks to me and I imagine many others because to have a family it's a strong bond many gain and hold on to. To me it's a family photo with no family in it. With context I believe it will speak to others as it does to me, however the photo is still a good looking serious photo. I think my artwork isn’t just what the people get to see but there is always a context to each. To me my artwork is meant to tell stories and capture the emotion in them. I like having figures in the front with a background with a lot of stories.

Ashley Bailey, Class of 2021, Roots
I named this photograph Roots because as you can see the roots of the trees are sticking out everywhere as well as the branches. It is a picture of a small creek that runs through the duck pond park surrounded by trees and leaves. When creating this final photo in photoshop, I increased the saturation and removed the ghosts. We were required for the assignment to turn up the saturation so it wasn’t exactly my artistic choice, but I do like how it came out.
I like this photograph because so much seems to be going on in it. You can see that the creek used to be more full in that little empty area along the edge and see how all the trees roots and branches are growing everywhere. I would describe myself as an artist to like to create things that are beautiful, aesthetically pleasing. Whether it be a picture of nature or an abstract painting.

Brandon Ramirez, Class of 2020, Two Kids at School.
The title is just two kids at school because I was in my photography class taking pictures with my homie, and I liked how the sun was set. This picture is of some sunglasses showing our reflection with my friend just talking. Also I edited this on my phone's edit options, what I edited was the sky so it would look a bit pinkish. I think my picture was successful because this was my best picture in my opinion, I also like that the mirror in the back looks cool and also the camera looks like we are pros at taking pictures.

Citlali Tejada, Class of 2020, Splash Of Fun
The photo is a picture of Vans jumping in a puddle. I did some editing was to make it colorful and fun to look at. To edit it I used an app on my phone called photo editor. I like that the photo looks neat and one of a kind. I would describe myself as a different artist because I like trying new things.

Christian Duenas, Class of 2021, Empty
I titled my photograph “Empty” because the photo shows an empty bench and an empty sky. The picture is a bench using the rule of thirds and in black and white. I put a black and white filter over the photo and used photoshop to make the skies more dark. I like that the photo can be any story you want to it to be and that it is empty. I like to try to find the extraordinary out of the world and photograph them.

Daniel Villanueva, Class of 2021, Standing Tall.
The picture is of a lone plant at the duck pond, just off of the main trail. I named the picture that because to me the photo showed that even when darkness has taken over there will always be a light and I think something like this is even more important during these times. I took the picture using one of the classroom cameras and then brought it into photoshop, turned it into black in white and upped the saturation to bring out the white in the plant. I really like the photo because of how timeless it feels and how it uses the rule of thirds. I think what makes it a successful photo is the complete contrast between the subject and its background. I think I’d call myself a symbolic artist.

Efrain Roman, Class of 2020, Liberty
This picture is a tessellation photo of an American flag located in front of the school’s office. I titled it “Liberty” because that’s what the American flag symbolizes; freedom, liberty and hope. To make this picture I used photoshop to make that repeated geometric shape pattern. To achieve this you must first open the image with Photoshop and create a new layer to add a 4x4 box. You then want to drag the image using the move tool to the first box. Then duplicate this layer and transform it to a horizontal orientation. After completing the first 2 top boxes you want to merge layers and then duplicate them. To create a reflection you need to vertically flip the layers you recently merged and duplicated. It’s a good picture because you get a unique perspective and angle of the American flag creating a distinctive shape in the middle. As an artist, I am someone who really does not like to do much editing. Just take and go.

Juan Corona, Class of 2020, Christmas in Quarantine.
I named this piece Christmas in Quarantine because the mood just gave me christmas vibes and we’re in quarantine so I just thought it fit. This picture details a building with christmas lights at vista village. I took this photo on my phone (Iphone XS Max) and edited the contrast to make it a tad darker. I like this photo because of the Christmas lights, specifically something about the color just makes it look very nice to me. I like to take pictures of light in the dark. It seems soothing to me but I don’t really know why.

Katie Carlyle, Class of 2020, Different in a World of Chaos
My picture depicts a girl who appears to be still, while the background is spinning into a blur. It shows that nothing is clear but she remains calm, describing her as different in a world of utter chaos. The girl is covering her face, yet her face is still visible which shows her vulnerability. And even then, she is calm and still. I used a camera with multiple exposure, and edited the colors in photoshop. I really like it because it's very different, it makes you want to look at it because it's something out of the ordinary. I think it is a successful photograph because it shows exactly what I had pictured in my head. I would describe myself as very simple, as I often go with simplistic ideas and use natural colors to differentiate my pictures.

Lauren Plorin, Class of 2021, Always Light
I decided to name my photo this because it’s simple yet also has a small underlying meaning to it. The picture is of a mirror in the grass which is reflecting the flowers and sky to help show more than one angle of the subject. In order to edit the photo to look like this I used the app Superimpose on my phone and from there I selected which colors I did and didn’t want to appear in the photo. I like this photo because my favorite color is yellow but I also liked the concept of a mirror reflecting things from a different angle that the camera couldn’t capture. I believe it’s a successful photograph since it turned out how I imagined it would and it also has a title that can have several meanings. I would describe myself as ambitious and hopeful to learn more things about photography or art in general.

Maritza Freeman, Class of 2020, Multiple Exposure.
I chose this picture because i thought it was cool to see an eye and what that person was looking at which was us in the photos. I combined these two photos because it went very well together. This photo is of an eye and the perspective of the person looking at us. I made this photo in Photoshop by adding a second layer and blending the photos together to make one. I really love this photo! It's my favorite one out of the year. My artistry got better throughout the year because I didn't know much about photoshop but now I do and so my pictures come out nice.

Maverick Dietzman, Class of 2021, Wasted
My picture is my checkered vans while sitting in the fire lane using multiple exposures. I titled it “Wasted” because in the picture its dead leaves and my vans look worn and dirty so people might call them a waste but in the picture it takes something that you wouldn't think would look good but it adds a sense of beauty to it. To make this picture I turned multiple exposures on in the camera settings and changed it to two shots. After doing so I used the photos app on the computer and adjusted the coloring and exposures to bring out certain colors. My artistry has gotten better as the year has progressed, learning techniques and how to use elements of art in my photos making them much better photos.

Max Reyes, Class of 2020, Twins of Lizards.
I named it that because its a photo of a lot of lizards staying the same. It's a picture of 16 lizards that are looking at each other. I made this photo it in photoshop buy making a tessellation and cutting the parts into pieces. I like it because it shows how all lizards look the same. I would describe myself as a creative artist because I like to be creative when it comes to photos.

Omar Peralta, Class of 2020, A Lens Into the Future
My picture is a “look within” photo. I titled it “A Lens Into the Future” because it's a photo of myself looking through my camera lens and envisioning myself seeing NYC. It was the perfect photo I could pick because it gave a good clear look of a NYC bridge but while still being able to see myself taking the picture. To make this photo I went into the bathroom and took a mirror picture. I also took a photo that I took while I was in NYC. After getting both photos I got on my snapseed and added the NYC photo as a double exposure. I was able to adjust how much exposure I wanted from the second photo to my liking. I liked this photo because the way I was able to show myself and show the place I love came out so nice in this photo. No importanted details were hidden so you could see the amazing bridge. I would describe myself as a very calm artist. My photos aren’t too extra, they are just perfect and relaxing to look at.

Precious Lopez, Class of 2021, Happy Days
I have named it ‘Happy Days’ because it is a picture of nature with a rainbow on top of it. When people see a rainbow they think of positive things such as nature being beautiful. This picture is a leaf with a rainbow overlapping on top of it. In order to make this photo I used one of the settings on the camera and was present at school while taking these. I like this photograph because it shows that you can always have positive thoughts no matter the day.

Rachel Ratelle, Class of 2020, When COVID-19 Knocked Us Down, We Came 20GETHER Stronger
I have titled my photograph this way because I think it represents what every senior (graduating in 2020) is experiencing right now. I also think that, as humans, we have really come together supporting one other in this different time. In life, everybody lives through personal experiences and obstacles that help shape their journey towards a certain goal. In this case, the impacts of COVID-19 serves as a pretty grand scale obstacle, removing individuals from their jobs, altering daily routines, and depriving seniors of special events like prom and graduation.
This is a picture of some fellow Photo 1 classmates displaying resilience, the overcoming of obstacles, support for one another, and hope to carry on. I only used Photoshop to simply touch up the photo’s content; contrast, brightness, etc… I like how the message portrayed by the image really resonates with what most individuals are experiencing currently, and the fact that an image I took months ago still holds tremendous relevance and significance makes it successful to me. As an artist I love to be creative and bold by stepping out of my comfort zone and letting my imagination contribute to the process.

Rogelio Morales Mozo, Class of 2020, Isolation
I titled this photograph “Isolation” because there is a bird by himself isolated from the world looking to the side while listening to the waves crashing against one another. It reminds me of a quote “If you want to be strong, Learn how to fight alone” because sometimes a person must spend time alone to rediscover their passion, weakness, and strengths to continue to pursue their dreams and goals for the future. This photo was taken at a wide-angle with a Canon camera in Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, CA. I didn’t do any editing to this picture; it was a simple take shot with natural sunlight. I really like this photo because it’s a natural photo of the ocean that we are lucky to have here in our hometown. The photograph is a successful photo because it captures the waves in motion with natural sunlight. I would describe myself as an artist that likes taking nature photos that shows what we have around us and not to take it for granted.

Shelby Vought, Class of 2021, Happiness.
I am calling my photograph Happiness because Veronica is always happy. She is actually a really bubbly person, and has good energy that I always enjoy being around. Bubbles themselves make me really happy as well. This is a simple picture of Veronica blowing bubbles.
I was able to take this picture really clean and simple on one of the first tries. I really did not do much editing to make it this pretty. I only used the photo feature on iPhotos to make it a little bit brighter, but other than that I didn’t do anything else to it. Overall, I really like this picture because of the cleaness, clarity of the subject and the bubbles. For example, I like how Veronica has a genuine smile on her face, as opposed to doing something besides what she was told to do. I really like the coloring of the bubbles as well. I would describe myself as an artist by my creativity. I feel like I can be very creative at certain times.

Trevor Mendoza, Class of 2020, Composure
I named it Composure because of the models convincing stance and stare. This is a picture of a model named Sebastian in the halls of Rancho Buena Vista. No other adjustments were made to these photos; the only thing used was a Silver Reflection on the model. I like this photo because of the look in the model’s eyes and the lighting on him makes it a nice portrait picture. I would describe myself as an artist who is very focused on creating my best shots.

Tristan Suppe, Class of 2020, The Perfect Morning.
I titled that photograph that name because the man is taking his dog for a walk while drinking a cup of coffee on a foggy morning in Seward, Alaska. To get the photo my grandma and I were about to board a tour boat. When I saw an opportunity for a great photo. It's my favorite photograph because it is so simple and perfectly executed with the man perfectly lined up with the dock. To describe myself as an artist I would say I like black & white and less saturated and warmer images since it's less like a dream and more dramatic.

Veronica Mae Juram, Class of 2020, Through the Ring
My photograph came from the project “Look Within”. I titled this photograph “Through the Ring” as the woman looks through the ring, seeing the glimmers of light. It is a powerful ring where its purpose is to see unique aspects that one would not be able to encounter without it. It was originally a picture of a woman holding the ring until I edited it through Photoshop, adding the colorful glimmers. Then, I adjusted the brightness and added more contrast to brighten up the colors. This photograph has become my favorite one as it reminds me of a supernatural fantasy. Before, I would never consider myself to be an artist. However after learning a great deal about photography, I feel increasingly more inspired to continue exploring and expanding my creativity.
