I had finally finished my shift on a terrible night, it was almost midnight and once again I had not brought a jacket. As I exited the building I got hit with a cold breeze. “Seems like it’s going to rain,” I thought, I continued to endure the cold and walked over to the bus station passing a few old and worn down buildings with little to no people occupying them. With the cold winter breeze brushing against my body I continued to walk and after a few minutes, I began to see the bus station.
The bus stop was composed of an old, thin post that held a sign and a dim light that was just bright enough for me to see my reflection on the ground. There was also a cold hard bench made of rusted metal that was deteriorating. The dim light began to flicker as time passed. I checked my phone “10:40 pm” it said, I wondered if any busses were going around at this hour. The light suddenly went out, my eyes widened in an attempt to see something. After a few seconds, it finally came back on, but I didn't feel relieved at all. I felt a presence, the air around me felt heavy. My heart began to pulse louder as the seconds flew by, my palms began to sweat as I lowered my gaze towards the floor.
Chills ran down my spine and felt my body go cold and numb as I saw a humanoid figure on the floor that was casting its shadow near the edge of the light. I was frozen in place, I could not move, desperation and fear got to me, however, I managed to take my phone out and point it toward the figure. The shakiness of my hand did not let me get a good glance however I saw white eye-shaped peering over my shoulders, I instantly dropped my phone, it fell for what felt like an eternity. It hit the concrete floor, glass shattered. Cold sweat ran down my back and I felt as if my heart would jump out of my chest, not even a second passed when I realized I had lost sight. “Am I dreaming? Why am I in such immense pain? What's that noise...oh is that me screaming? Why can't I feel my throat? How long have I been like this?. After a few seconds, I heard an unfamiliar voice asking me how I was doing. “Why are the lights off?” I asked, “they aren't,” the man responded. '`You lost your eyes' ' he added, ``I couldn't believe it. Why me? How could this have happened to me, it was a normal day… why?...why?.” It's happened 3 times already, all injuries look the same” he continued to talk however I was captivated by the shock. Soon after I was released from the hospital with the assistance of family. It’s been a few years now, however, I still remember the path I took and the old worn down bus stop vividly.
The figure does not escape from my memory, I’ve recited this story several times already to a few friends and family. No matter how much time passes by, I still feel my stomach drop and my palms get sweaty whenever I remember those horrifying moments. There have been a few rumors circulating recently about an uprise in similar situations, I sincerely hope no one… not even people I despise, go through those 30 seconds of horror.
