For this project, you are to create a padlet with your partner with examples of the Elements & Principles of Art through photography. This is one of the most important projects you will do this year, as you will continuously be referring back to it throughout the course.
Elements of Art: Line, color, shape, form, texture, space, and value. Principles of Art: Emphasis, harmony, variety, balance, rhythm, proportion and unity. The steps you will take are the following: 1. Take photos of images of the elements and principles of art, one example each. One partner will take photographs of the first four elements and last three principles, and the other partner will take photos of the last three elements and first three principles- so: Partner 1: line, color, shape, form, rhythm, proportion and unity Partner 2: texture, space, value, emphasis, harmony, variety, and balance. 2. Upload each of your and your partner's images onto a padlet you create that you two will share. To create a padlet: a. Go to padlet.com b. Sign up with Google- use your email address to sign up with, and have your password as your 8 digit birthday. c. Create a padlet by pressing "new padlet". d. Go to the wagon wheel on the right hand side of the grey area and press "modify this padlet" e. Title the padlet your partner and your last names, elements and principles f. Have the description be Elements and principles project and then list them as Elements of Art: Line, color, shape, form, texture, space, and value. Principles of Art: Emphasis, harmony, variety, balance, rhythm, proportion and unity.. g. Modify the padlet address to both of your lastnames+ep h. Start uploading your photos onto your padlet by double clicking on the grey area. The title should be what that element or principle it is, and the description should be 3 or more sentences explaining what it is, and how it is that element or principle. ALL ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES along with their descriptions must be included in your padlet. i. MAKE SURE your padlet address is the correct one when entering it into your smartphone. If you are having any issues, you can always email yourself your photographs to your personal (not school) email and then upload it from your desktop. As always, if you need help with how to do that, just ask! 3. Add your padlet address to the class padlet which is according to your period number. Have the title be both your partner and your names for grading purposes. Period 1 http://padlet.com/kclarkart/p1ep Period 2 http://padlet.com/kclarkart/p2ep Period 3 http://padlet.com/kclarkart/p3ep Period 5 http://padlet.com/kclarkart/p5ep Period 6 http://padlet.com/kclarkart/p6ep 4. You and your partner are to title each page with the element or principle you are illustrating, as well as a paragraph describing why the photograph is that element or principle. Your paragraphs should have the following information: A. Name of the element or principle of art B. Description in your own words what that element or principal is from the notes C. Description of your photograph D. How your photograph is that element or principal Example of descriptive paragraph: “The photograph that I am describing is called Pahalgam, Kashmir, India, and was made in 1998 by Steve McCurry. It is a landscape photograph that has two large trees in the foreground and several trees in the background in a forest. I am assuming that the time of year is the fall, because of all the red leaves on the ground. Within the forest there is a person in front of the main tree who is building a fire, presumably to keep warm. I feel that the artist was using emphasis by the use of the bright light in a subdued color background, and the fire is bright yellow, so it catches your eyes immediately. I feel the artist was successful in using this principle of art because it is the first thing I look at when I see the photograph, and it sets a solemn mood.” 5. To share your padlet with your partner, go to modify settings (wagon wheel) > privacy > SHARE this padlet via email > put your partner's email in > use the drop down menu to let them modify. You will be graded based on the following: Time on task and citizenship- 4 points (worked hard, good partnership) Quality of Photographs- 8 points (in focus, relevant to the element or principle, not the same photo used for other elements or principles) Description of Each Element/ Principle, full sentences- 4 points Presentation- 4 points (explanation of each photograph and why they relate to the e/p) “We must remember that a photograph can hold just as much as we put into it, and no one has ever approached the full possibilities of the medium.” Ansel Adams Dear awesome students,
