Answer the following questions in complete sentences based on a print advertisement that you found in a magazine. Tear out the ad at the end at the end and have it along with your answers- staple to the back of your answers.
- Where was the advertisement placed- what magazine?
- Was it a consumer (something you would see on the newsstands, for the general public) or a trade magazine (business to business)? What makes you say that?
- Where in the magazine was it found- on the back cover, on a right hand page, far forward, across from the table of contents, etc?
- What company is the advertisement for?
- How would you describe the company logo- what sort of typeface is used (script, bold block letters, etc)
- Is there an image involved within the logo? If so, what is it?
- What does the logo say (if anything) about the company?
- Is there a tagline along with the logo (ie “Just do it” along with the swish symbol for Nike)? What is it?
- If there is a tagline, do you feel that the tagline says anything about the company, and if so, what?
- What is the headline of the ad?
- What does the copy (the informational section) say?
- What is the image in the advertisement of?
- How would you describe the image?
- Who do you think the ad is geared towards, based on the information- both where it’s placed, and what the illustration or photograph and copy reads?
- What message is the company that placed the advertisement trying to say?
- What do you think their “unique selling proposition” is? How are they trying to sell their product?
- How do you, as a consumer and a teenager, read/interpret the ad?
- Do you think the ad was successful or not? Does it make you want to go out and buy that product or service? Why or why not?
